The Spring of 2018 was a huge shift for many on my home island as the Goddess Pele, the Hawaiian lava goddess, entered our world in a transformative way and erupted.

The volcanic eruption caused many to evacuate, took home after home and changed huge areas of land forever. So many special places that I loved and visited regularly got turned into a lava field and my house was one of the areas that very easily could have been changed forever. As we temporarily moved and lived a life that was pretty much a waiting game, having us in a bit of a cloud not knowing if our 10 acres of land would turn into a black lava abyss, many internal transformations started to take place.

I started to feel a strong pull to create a re-birth of my company Simple Sistah. I created that brand from a deep inspiration brought on by my seaside life in Hawai’i and the desire to create a skincare company that put ocean protection at the forefront. And while ocean protection is always a big part of my life I started to envision my future farm being intertwined with my skincare company, growing as many ingredients that I could to heal and support a healthy self care regimen. A trip to Spain and my deep love for both Spanish culture and Hawaiian life brought on the name Mahina Sol and the transformation began. As we were able to come back to our farm and continue the growth of Mahinalani Gardens, I’ve been able to use Mahina Sol as a guide to decide what plants to organically grow. Mahina Sol will always use ocean friendly ingredients and put nature at the forefront of the brand as we grow into the future.

I look forward to sharing more products with you as our farm grows and more healing ingredients are blended in my apothecary.

In one of my happy places Spain, and the birth place of the Mahina Sol name.

On a quiet little beach on the Mediterranean.

The beautiful lava river seen from a plane tour I took.
